A Day in My Life at QGate – Steve Clarke

A Video Interview with Steve Clarke, Head of Sales and Marketing

Please tell us about your role at QGate.

Please tell us about your role at QGate.

Hi, my name is Steve Clarke and I’m the Head of Sales and Marketing at QGate Software. I joined the company in August 2020 and as the title suggests I look after sales and marketing for the business.

Describe a typical day in your role.

A day at QGate will typically start with team management, so engaging with the sales and marketing team members to make sure they have everything they need to work to the best of their ability. At QGate, I’m also responsible for new business acquisition. So anything from product demonstrations to proposal creations are regular throughout my day as well. On top of that, I manage the referral partner network here at QGate. So that involves engaging with and assisting partners on a very regular basis as well.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

What do I love most about my job? Probably the varied nature of it, so no two customers’ requirement is ever the same. We might get customers from the same industry or the same vertical, but in reality, what they’re looking to achieve with a CRM or the processes that they’re looking to improve are often very, very different. So, it gives me no chance of getting bored doing what I do.

I also absolutely love meeting new people and talking. So working in new business for QGate as well as looking after sales and marketing, affords me the opportunity to do that almost on a daily basis. Finally, I love working with amazing people. We have that at QGate in abundance. I’m always learning new things. We’re always having a really good time. and having a laugh at the same time. So, that is another thing that I love.

What is the hardest part of your job?

Probably the very nature of what we do. So whilst it is a benefit, in the fact that I’ll never get bored doing it. It does make it increasingly tricky to keep up to date with all of the features and functionality that a CRM solution like that MS Dynamics can afford. In talking to a customer that has a customer service requirement it would be entirely different, to a customer that has a sales requirement and equally with a marketing requirement as well, so it can be quite challenging in making sure that I am fully up to date with all that Dynamics can offer.

Share a highlight from your time at QGate so far. What are you looking forward to working on over the next year?

So a highlight since joining QGate for me was bringing on a new North American customer who operates in ethical fabric production. So they take waste products from rice crops in China and they manufacture it into things like yarn and cloth and fabrics and then they are then sold into mainstream fashion manufacturers, some very, very well known brands. So the fact that we could help an organisation improve their business processes, manage things like sales and invoicing better, that operates in such a very conscious fashion for me was fantastic.

I’ve also had the good fortune of recruiting two new team members within the business as well. So that’s been great.

In terms of what I’m looking forward to over the next 6 to 12 months. We have a lot going on in terms of website development and improvement, so that is of key focus. I’m also working on the partner programme to make some improvements, to really be able to furnish our partners with our new tools and methods to generate opportunity for us and for their customers. And equally I’m looking forward to growing as a business. There’s a lot of plans for the next 12 months and should be exciting times.
